Choose a place that's close to where you want to be. Bangkok is vast and distances are deceptive. If you live on one side of town and work or play on the other side, you'll find it a drag. You'll spend half your time travelling. And you've got much better things to do in Bangkok than sit for two hours in a traffic jam. Yes, you may pay less money for accommodation further out, but you may also spend all of what you save on travelling.

Guest Houses

If you have a limited budget for accommodation, a guest house on the Kao San road in the west is a possible choice for you. This area is well-known among backpacking travellers. You will find everything here such as international food, cybercafes, pubs and various and negotiable wares along both sides of the road. If you are a bargain hunter you will certainly be drawn to the Kaosan Road. A good time should be had by all, but don’t expect much comfort as it is rather rough and ready. If you plan to stay longer, renting an apartment is probably your best alternative. This is remarkably easy. You can find apartments to rent by the day, week or month. You will see signs such as "Apartment for Rent" or "Rooms to Rent" all over the place. Simply walk in and tell them that you would like to see a sample room. Negotiate the price. You need to put down a deposit first and then inform them of the date that you want to move in. That’s it. You can also find apartments by looking in the Bangkok Post or on the internet. Typical prices range from Bt5000/m to Bt15,000, but you can easily pay less or more.
